As a child, I developed a strong affinity for Collies after having a few as pets and being a fan of Lassie on television. However, I didn't immediately begin breeding them. Instead, I took the time to learn as much as I could about the breed by reading books and attending shows with my father to watch the Collies in the conformation ring. Additionally, I spent years doing Collie rescue work.
Growing up in the south suburbs of Chicago, I was fortunate to be surrounded by a group of experienced breeders, including Jean Framke, Rita Stanzick, Bertha Garrison, Debbie Ferguson, and Joyce Weinmann. I participated in Junior Showmanship and won several Best Junior Handler awards, which solidified my passion for dog shows.
My foundation bitch, CH Bonham's Cara Mia, was gifted to me by Joyce Weinmann. "Cara Mia" was a product of the breeding between CH Fantasy's Sable Sensation and CH Bonham's Over The Rainbow and was inbred on CH Wayside Party Favor. Our current Collies can be traced directly back to her.
Through careful breeding, I have been able to produce healthy, home-bred champions in both varieties of Collies. All of my Collies are health tested and are members of the Collie Health Foundation. My motto has always been "quality over quantity." While I don't breed often, I do occasionally have puppies and adults available to the right homes. I require an application, home visit, and reference checks for all placements.
