Our Story

Rohde Collies began as a childhood love affair for the Collie breed after owning a few collies as pets and watching Lassie on television. Breeding was not something that I rushed into right away. I studied every book I could find and I would go to the shows with my Dad to watch the Collies in the conformation ring. I also did Collie Rescue work for years.

Growing up in the south suburbs of Chicago, I was fortunate to surround myself with a powerhouse of breeders: Jean Framke, Rita Stanzick, Bertha Garrison, Debbie Ferguson and Joyce Weinmann. I showed in Junior Showmanship and won multiple Best Junior Handler wins. It became clear that I was hit by the dog show bug.

My foundation bitch, CH Bonham's Cara Mia came from the generosity of Joyce Weinmann. "Cara Mia" was by CH Fantasy's Sable Sensation out of CH Bonham's Over The Rainbow. She was inbred on CH Wayside Party Favor. Our present-day collies trace directly back to her.

Through judicious breeding efforts, I have been able to produce healthy, home-bred champions in both varieties. All of the Collies are health tested in conjunction with being members of the Collie Health Foundation. My motto has always been "quality over quantity." While I do not breed often, I do occasionally have puppies and adults available to the right home. I do require an application, home visit, and reference checks with all placements.
